Francisco Reina, Sevilla, 1979
Francisco Reina earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from the University of Seville in 2003. In 2007, he was awarded a Roberto Villagraz Grant to enroll in a one-year master’s degree in photography, for which he would have to move to Madrid. There, in the Spanish capitol, he would develop most as an artist.
While in Madrid, he received numerous recognitions for his work, including first prize in the 35th Bancaja Digital Art competition, and won the 2008 EFTI Future Award. Reina has also been finalist for the Lex Van Rossen Award, in The Netherlands and earned honorable mention at the 10th ABC Art Prize, was a finalist in the 7th and 8th editions of the Purificación García Photography Contest and also the AENA Foundation Award. Francisco has received a number of grants from the Iniciarte Program and has participated in international festivals including the Noorderlicht Photofestival, FotoFestival Naarden, and the Unseen Photo Fair (Amsterdam). His work has been shown in Spain and also abroad in cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, New York, and Caracas.
Some of the most noteworthy publications that have included Reina’s work are NEW Dutch Photography Talent 1012; Vrij Nederland Fotografie Special 2013; Esquire (Russia) nº 74, series “The Art of Power”; Stand_By_012: Guía de fotografía Andaluza Actual; and many exhibition catalogues.
His photographs form part of the Pilar Citoler Collection, the Bancaja Collection, the Colección de Arte de la Diputación de Huelva, and private collections.
